Learning is a lifelong experience.

 Adult learning enhances quality of life, creates opportunities for the individual and strengthens the community through increased participation, confidence and skills acquired by community members.

With Maggie Salter  

In my course I will teach two calligraphy scripts, Foundational Hand and Uncial Hand, both lovely scripts. The course covers Calligraphy terminology and demonstration of different types of calligraphy pens and use of inks, paper, etc. There will be plenty of opportunities to practice these scripts and to try different embellishments to enhance your calligraphy. I have a good resource library and plenty of examples to give students ideas and inspiration. Included in the course are excellent handouts and guide sheets. The course will be relaxed and in a friendly environment and my aim is to ensure the course is enjoyable and fun! Needs list on enrolment. (Max 4). BYO lunch.

Come along and get started with the basics of guitar playing. You will learn the very basics including Chords, strumming etc. Please bring along your guitar and have fun learning the basics.

Guitar Intermediate

Designed for those who have some basic knowledge of guitar and would like take this one step further. Course will focus on strumming and rhythm guitar taught in a practical fun way. Please bring along your guitar.

Zumba with Elsa 

Come and join us and you’ll see what I mean you don’t even have to know how to dance. Just move your body and follow my lead its easy to do! Zumba makes you feel positive and its all about letting yourself move freely. KWIK QUILTING WITH ADRIENNE  

Kwik Scrappy Star (or Heart) Quilt

Learn the “Stack ‘n’ Whack” technique to enhance your quilting repertoire or just to impress your neighbours! Turn out a single-bed sized quilt top in a weekend which will dazzle and astound. Bring your sewing machine and lunch. Pattern cost to tutor $16. (Max 10)

This is a patchwork tote bag using a “Stack ‘n’ Whack” technique which is easy to learn for beginners or seasoned veterans alike! You can get as carried away as you like with embellishment and those fancy stitches on your machine that you never get to use! It is achievable to create the bag on the day. Felt Lumps & Bumps

A next-step for those who have attended a basic felt making course, where you will make your own stylised hat. Please bring a bucket. Materials cost to tutor $10. BYO lunch. (Max 10).

SEWING WITH JUNKO

Overlock a Tunic and/or Leggings in a Day

Bring along your overlocker & instructions. Enjoy learning about your overlocker and create tunic and/or leggings in this one day workshop. Needs list sent on enrolment. BYO lunch. (Max 10)

Patternmaking for Beginners Skirt and/or Trousers 

Make your own patterns, perfect fit.  Learn how to measure, draw and design your own skirt and/or trousers. Enjoy improving your patternmaking and dressmaking. List of materials will be sent out upon enrolment. BYO lunch. (Max 10).

Make Your Own Apron or Christmas Countdown Calendar 

Come along to this one day workshop and create a Christmas apron or Christmas Countdown Calendar for yourself or as a gift. Use the winter nights to prepare for Christmas or to make those special gifts for family and friends. Bring your own pattern or use a pattern provided by the tutor for your creation for the apron or create a Christmas Countdown Calendar as Counting down to Christmas is an old time tradition that is still a favourite of children and adults alike. Come and join us to create a great calendar piece or apron that can easily be made by adults or children and used year after year. Needs List upon enrolment. BYO lunch. (Max 10). GET CREATIVE WITH ANNETTE

Fantastic Fabric BoxesThese fabric boxes make charming serviette holders or serving dish for nuts, wrapped chocolates and sweets. Ideal in Christmas fabric or selected fabrics of your choice. Meals on the Move 

This classic tried-and-true casserole carrier will add style to your next potluck dinner or ‘porta party’. Give your table piazz with your new creation. Needs list sent on Enrolment. (Max 10). Materials cost to tutor $10.

Door Stop Creation 

Make a fun and easy door stop. These fun door stops are made of fabric that come in a variety of styles and novelty prints. This simple design is a soft pyramid that is easy on the toes. It has a hand loop for hanging on a hook when it is not in use. This door stop is a perfect and quick project for a beginning sewing class. Needs list sent on Enrolment. (Max 10). Funky Brooch 

Come along and make a funky colourful brooch to be worn by you or make this for someone special. Bring along scraps of fabric of your choice, lace, buttons, and threads to match your fabric, a sharp needle and a small sharp pair of scissors. (Max 10). Materials cost to tutor $10.

Shimmering Decorations 

Add some sparkle to your Christmas tree by creating stylish decorations. $15 to tutor for creation kit. Needs list sent on Enrolment. (Max 10).

Pretzel Wreath 

Use three strips of fabric and some simple decorations to make an eye catching wreath for your door. Needs list sent on Enrolment. (Max 10). Materials cost to tutor $10.

Writing Classes with Kyla-Jayne  

Write Yourself Free – Begin Again

This workshop is for the writer who doesn’t write and the one who doesn’t know they can. It aims to re-ignite the desire to write or to inspire the writing voice that was once stifled. Within a supportive and encouraging environment you’ll engage with your writing voice as it begins to resurface through a series of writing exercises. Bring pen, paper, pencil, journal, lucky hat; whatever you need to begin again. (Max 8)

Write Your First Draft 

This course will set you on your way if you want to write the first draft of a short story, or the beginning chapter of a novel, biography, memoir or non-fiction book. We’ll look at the basic fundamentals of craft and style, including character, setting, plot, tense and point of view. As the aim of the course is to achieve a writing goal, you’ll have the opportunity to read aloud your completed piece on the last day. (Max 8)

Rewrite, Edit, Polish & Send

The Poet in You

This course aims to enlighten the poet with in and expose you to a broad range of poetic styles and forms by listening to the sounds of poetry. We’ll begin with an Old English alliterative poem and journey through fixed forms into free verse.  Emphasis will be made on listening while watching for metaphor, imagery and rich language. This will be a fun course; come prepared to be encouraged to write and read your poems aloud. FINE ART WITH KEN

Watercolour/Acrylic (Intermediate, Advanced)

For intermediate and above artists and those with good drawing skills we welcome you to learn fine art to a higher level of artistic skill. For the first session you will need your kit to enable you to begin drawing and/or painting. (Max 10)

Drawing Skills Level 2 

For those who have completed Basic Drawing or have basic skills in drawing. Learn skills in sketching, drawing nature, basic techniques for portraits. Bring A3 sketch pad, 2B, 4B, 5B pencils, soft eraser, charcoal, plus lunch.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY WITH PETER

How to Buy a Digital Camera

Would you like to buy a digital camera, but unsure of which one is best for you. Come to this one 2 hour session where we explore the different types and uses of digital cameras in a friendly atmosphere. Cameras will be available for you to use and compare with notes on buying and camera usage. (Max 15). Materials cost to tutor $10.

Digital Photography for Beginners 

Unsure about how to use your new digital camera, come a join this two-day weekend class. Bring your camera and manual along with your lunch, this small hands on class practical will cover camera controls, portraiture, landscape and photojournalism. Complete course notes. Red Embroidery or Blue

Chicken Scratch Embroidery

Food Gardening & Organics 

Discover the excitement of growing your own food. You will know where the food comes from, how it has been cared for and how old it is. This is a great activity which costs little and makes use of existing land. We will sow seeds, prick out seedlings, discuss organics and share a meal with ingredients from the garden. Bring your own containers to plant seed, such as yoghurt, butter and margarine pots. Also bring your own seed growing mix and seeds or bring some coins to buy from tutor. Plus $1.00 for course notes. This course will run two Sundays 3 weeks apart to allow seeds to grow. BYO lunch for the first day (as the shared lunch is for the second day of the course). (Max 12). Bike Maintenance with Avanti Plus

Learn hands on tips of the trade from our qualified bike mechanics for a trouble free love affair with your bicycle eg. Repairing punchures, lubing chain and cables etc. Fee: $10 per course.

The W.E.A. Ramblers
